How to Ride the Bus

OCC Transport operates fixed-route, scheduled service built around class times and student needs. Weekday and weekend schedules differ — check the Routes & Schedules page before you ride.

Planning your trip
  • Check the routes and schedules page before heading out.
  • Arrive at your stop 5–10 minutes before the scheduled departure.
  • Wait only at designated bus stops.
  • Signal the driver to board when the bus arrives.
  • Have your BU ID ready to scan before boarding.

Boarding & safety
  • Enter through the front door only.
  • Do not stand forward of the white line at the front of the bus.
  • Move toward the rear of the bus after boarding to allow others to board.
  • Pull the cord to signal your exit request before your stop.
  • Exit through the rear door.
  • Do not cross in front of the bus after exiting.

Overcrowding

  • Expect crowding during bad weather — plan accordingly and allow extra time.
  • If you are standing, move rearward to allow additional passengers to board.
  • Standing forward of the floor line is prohibited by federal regulation.
  • If a bus is full, consider checking alternate routes or BC Transit as an alternative.

Guest Policy

  • One guest per BU ID is permitted on the bus.
  • Notify the driver that you have a guest when boarding.
  • The BU ID holder is responsible for their guest’s conduct for the duration of the visit.

Late Nite Service

  • Buses on late nite routes may be delayed due to incidents — allow extra wait time.
  • If you feel sick, notify the driver or on-board monitor immediately.
  • No standing on the buses past midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Campus loading uses Union barricades; Downtown loading uses Hawley Street barricades.
  • Rule violations will result in expulsion from the bus.
Cleaning fee notice: Vomiting on a bus will result in a cleaning fee charged to the responsible passenger.

Inclement Weather Emergency Procedure

  • When a RAVE emergency alert is issued, our emergency protocol is immediately activated.
  • Buses currently on campus will freeze in place, unload all passengers, and drivers will seek shelter.
  • Buses en route to campus will continue until they reach campus property, then follow the same procedure.
  • In extreme conditions where continuing is unsafe, drivers will pull over and unload passengers at the nearest building.
